What are Substitute Remote Controls?

Not to be confused with our own-branded replacement remote controls, substitute remote controls are original manufacturer products we've identified to be compatible with other models of TVs (and other devices) when the original remote control is no longer available.

While a substitute remote control might look slightly different to the original remote control that came with your TV, we've undertaken the research and testing to ensure that a substitute remote will work with the model of your TV.

This means that with a substitute remote control, you can be sure that it will provide all of the functions of your old remote that may be lost or broken.

Why can I no longer buy the original remote control for my TV?

We'll only identify and offer a substitute remote control when the original remote control is no longer available to us from the manufacturer. This is most often because the product has been discontinued and is no longer in production.

Rest assured we've tested the substituted product to ensure it will work perfectly with your TV, just as the original did.

Are Substitute Remote Controls Authentic?

Yes! Substitute remote controls are produced by the original manufacturer, so you can be sure you'll receive an authentic, original remote control that's been made by the original brand.

How do I know if I'm buying a Substituted remote control?

Whenever we offer a substitute remote control, we'll make sure it's listed as such, with an example like the one below:

Once you click 'Product Details', you'll be able to see your original remote within the listings to make a comparison of the two:

As you can see in this example, visually the substitute remote control is very similar to the original remote control, but with some changes in layout and placement of keys.

What if there is more than one type of substitute available?

In some cases we're able to identify multiple substitutes for a model of TV. 

In this case, we generally recommend selecting the substitute that looks most visually similar to your original remote control.

I don't want a substitute remote control, what other options do I have?

If we're no longer to supply the original remote control, this is typically because it's no longer in production and so not available from the manufacturer.

You may want to consider a Classic branded replacement remote control, which provides all of the functions of the original but with a different design - and an appealing price!

In most cases we stock a replacement remote control, so this option is always there to try.
